BENIN
Benin, or officially the Republic of Benin, is a country located in the western portion of the Continent of Africa. Niger, Nigeria, Togo, and Burkina Faso are the neighboring countries (clockwise from the north), and Benin Bay is located in the Gulf of Guinea in the south of the country. The country, which was a French colony in the past, gained its independence in 1960 as the Republic of Dahomey. As a result of the political developments in the country in 1975, the name of the country was changed to the People's Republic of Benin and then, the name of the country was changed to the Republic of Benin, which is still used today, along with the change of the regime in 1990 once more. The capital city of the country is Porto-Novo.
